Angus Rands Angus Rands was born in Ilkley, but later moved to Harrogate. He is best known for his pastels and watercolours of the Yorkshire Dales. He contributed to The Artist and Leisure Painter. Although trained in pharmacy, he became a professional artist in 1960. He was elected a member of the Pastel Society. He exhibited at the Mall Galleries and other galleries in London and the North.
He often uses very broad strokes of pastel or oil to build his landscapes, giving them them a plein air vibrancy and life. He introduces the acid yellow of oilseed rape into many of his Spring and early summers farmland with a sureness of touch which integarates this relative newcomer into the English landscape.
Rands excells at depicting cloud, light, wetness and snow and shows amazing empathy with the keynotes of all the seasons.
