It is on Saturdays 10th September, and should be great fun as well as a fascinating learning experience. Please email us to have a brochure/ application form sent.

The course will be presented by NADFAS lecturer, Rosamund Jordan (author of The Staithes Group Centenary Catalogue, the most up-to-date reference work on the group), together with her husband and business partner, Tom. The Jordans have over sixty years of experience between them in handling works by members of the group who painted in and around the village a century ago.

The day will provide the opportunity to explore Staithes and discover the varying aspects of the village which attracted so many good artists to paint there.

Hundreds of images of original works by members of the Group will be available to study, both as slides and on computer. There will also be a wide selection of original works to examine directly.

The course will focus on the effect of the Yorkshire coast and its hinterland on the Artists’ work and will examine the techniques employed by a selection of them. It will discuss the definition of ‘The Staithes Group’ and will look at some of the similarities in the backgrounds of its artists.

A tour of the village will look at the places the artists lived and worked and the elements which influenced them.

The course, whilst having some formal elements, is designed to be fun and participatory - Tom and Rosamund
always enjoy it immensely themselves. It will be limited to 25 people per day with bookings accepted in order of receipt.

One of the reasons that Staithes has remained so unchanged is that there is no public parking in the old village. There is a both private and a Municipal park at the top of the village, however. The old village is at the bottom of a very steep bank and then there is a climb up to St. Peter’s Centre.

Unfortunately the study day is not suitable for people with mobility problems.

A pub lunch and tea and coffee breaks are included in the cost of £45 per person ( usually non-returnable in
event of cancelation). The Study Day will last from 10am until 4pm.

If you would like to use the course as an excuse to stay in the area for a while, or would simply like to stay overnight, indicate this on the booking form and we will send you details of accommodation in the area.

Please email us or phone and leave a message, using the contact details on this site, if you would like a brochure/application form.
