Frank Wasley is one of the artists whose work is very much associated with
ourselves. We had three public exhibitions of his work in the 1970s for which we researched his life and work, and have handled his pictures ever since. We have more work by him in our own collection than that by any other artist. He was a pioneer in Canada for a while also working there as a cellist.He began painting in oils in the 1880s. During the next decade he worked in charcoal and then watercolour often mixed with other media. His watercolours are often based on an uneven sided U shape. He was influenced greatly by Turner’s work and excels at
reproducing light and atmosphere.

He lived in Whitby in the late 1890s and exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Birmingham City Art Gallery, the Walker Gallery Liverpool, Nottingham Art Gallery and Sunderland Art Gallery. His work is in the collection of the Pannet Art gallery, Whitby.
