Returning to the Cottage, Runswick Price: £2,450.00
Watercolours, 14"x12", signed. This unusual watercolour by Staithes Group artist, John Atkinson (1863-1924) is a departure from his more usual scenes featuring working horses and is the only one we have ever found which focusses on a fisherman. That it shows a part of Runswick in such detail is an added bonus. View larger image

The Trees, Runswick Price: £6,950.00
Oils on board, 8¾"x11", by Staithes Group artist, Mark Senior (1862-1927). Bears label verso: 'I, Alice Senior, widow of the late Mark Senior, certify that the sketch to which this label is attached is the work of my late husband. 1927.' I find this picture very intersting to compare with Mayor's work. Both seem to work on the sky last, painting it on top of the trees when, of course, it is really behind them. Lower down we look through branches to the sea at Runswick on a bright Summer's day. The figure of a fisherman can be seen crouching in the shadow at the base of a tree. It is painted in Senior's typical palette. View larger image

The Beach, Runswick Price: £2,250.00
Watercolours, 10"x14",by Staithes Group artist, Mark Senior (1862-1927). Bears label verso: 'I, Alice Senior, widow of the late Mark Senior, certify that the sketch to which this label is attached is the work of my late husband. 1927.' This is a true conoisseur's picture. It is breath-takingly beautiful with its build-up of subtle washes which can be appreciated either as a whole or as part of the painting as an abstract work, exploiting the juxtaposition of related colours and tones. It reminds me of a piece of classical music with its complex and repeated themes. View larger image
