William Gaunt was born in Leeds and studied at Lancaster School of Art after attending school in Morcambe. He often painted race horses in and around Middleham. Despite or, perhaps, because of, being involved in the D-Day landings as an officer in the Royal Engineers, he enjoyed painting happy summer beach scenes. He was a member of the Lancaster Art Group.

John Falconar Slater 1857 - 1937
John Falconar Slater was a Northumbrian artist who exhibited prolifically in his own area. Initially, however, he worked as a bookeeper for his father's corn mill and then ran a store in the diamond fields of South Africa before turning to art as a career. He was a member of the Bewick Club and President of the North East Art Club, based in Whitley Bay, and also a member of the Cullercoats Colony. He could be one of the best Northern Impressionist artists, and was expert at depicting the many moods of the North Sea. The last twelve years of his life were spent in Cullercoats.
Exhibited: L. 5, M. 1, R.A. 22 and widely on Tyneside.
(Stephen) Frank Wasley 1848-1934
Frank Wasley's work has its own distinctive style, making his illegible signature superfluous. It is powerful, atmospheric and I often find it to be very emotive through some strange interaction of these two elements. Since our early exhibitions of his pictures in the 1970s Wasleys work has gradually become much better known and collected. He had the same drive to portray light and atmosphere as the Staithes Group and we have always believed his work to be of similar quality. We have now brought together the best selection of his work that we have had in stock for some considerable time. There has not been an opportunity to view, appraise and select from such a good body of his work for at least twenty years. We believe you will be favourably surprised by the level of his prices compared with the quality of his work.
