Staithes Group member Paul Politachi was born into a Greek family in Constantinople. He moved England at some point and enrolled at Herkomer's School in January 1987. It is likely that he met Rowland Hill while he was there and was introduced to Staithes through him. He painted chiefly in oils using small strokes of pure colour, very much in the manner of the French Impressionists. Whilst painting on the North Yorkshire coast during the peak of the Staithes Group, he was to spend most of his career based in London. He used the name Paul Paul.

John Falconar Slater 1857 - 1937 John Falconar Slater 1857 - 1937
John Falconar Slater was a Northumbrian artist who exhibited prolifically in his own area. Initially, however, he worked as a bookeeper for his father's corn mill and then ran a store in the diamond fields of South Africa before turning to art as a career. He was a member of the Bewick Club and President of the North East Art Club, based in Whitley Bay, and also a member of the Cullercoats Colony. He could be one of the best Northern Impressionist artists, and was expert at depicting the many moods of the North Sea. The last twelve years of his life were spent in Cullercoats.
Exhibited: L. 5, M. 1, R.A. 22 and widely on Tyneside.
